When is a 40 kWh + 15 kW system interesting?
This type of system is particularly interesting when your energy needs are significantly higher than those of an average family. Think of large detached houses, farmhouses, buildings with multiple units, as well as small to medium-sized businesses. Some typical situations:
• Multiple heat pumps or a combination of heat pump, underfloor heating and air conditioning
• One or more charging stations for electric cars or commercial vehicles
• Large cooling and freezing installations, catering equipment or production machines
• Farms with milking installations, compressors, ventilation and lighting
• Offices with constant base load (servers, climate control, lighting)
With 40 kWh of storage, you can draw a significant portion of your energy from the battery for several days, depending on your consumption. Combined with a large solar panel system, a self-sufficiency rate of 80 to 90 percent is realistic in many situations. You'll be less dependent on the grid, better protected against rising energy prices, and you'll make optimal use of your own solar power.
3-phase installation according to NEN1010 and NEN3140
A system in this power class requires a professional 3-phase installation. The load is distributed across three phases, allowing for much better utilization of cables, circuit breakers, and main fuses, while minimizing peak currents. Moreover, for power levels at this level, your grid operator almost always requires a 3-phase connection.
During installation, our technicians will check the existing meter box, main fuses, grounding system, and the existing PV system. Where necessary, components will be modified or expanded to ensure the complete system complies with applicable standards and guidelines, including NEN1010 and NEN3140. Consider:
• Correct selectivity and protection (circuit breakers, earth leakage circuit breakers, main switches)
• Correct sizing of cables and pipes
• Grid connection and external protection according to grid operator requirements
• Safety features for maintenance and malfunctions
• Clear labeling and documentation of the installation
After delivery, you'll receive an explanation of the system's operation, basic settings, and monitoring. This way, you'll know exactly how to optimally use the battery: for your own consumption, peak shaving, backup power, or a combination of these.
Savings, payback period and dynamic energy rates
The exact savings depend on your energy consumption, the capacity and orientation of your solar panels, your electricity rate, and the type of contract (fixed, variable, or dynamic). For large consumers and energy-intensive businesses, the savings can amount to thousands of euros per year.
In a scenario with an annual consumption of, for example, 15,000 to 25,000 kWh, a 40 kWh system combined with a large PV array can achieve annual savings of roughly €2,000 to €3,000 at current average rates. With dynamic contracts, additional benefits can be achieved by intelligently charging at low hourly rates and discharging when the price is higher.
In many cases, the payback period is between 5 and 8 years, depending on the investment, subsidies, energy price trends, and the extent to which you actively manage consumption patterns. Moreover, you have a major strategic advantage: you build a robust energy supply that is less susceptible to price increases and grid congestion.
Emergency power and business continuity
For many businesses and agricultural enterprises, the continuity of their power supply is at least as important as the financial savings. In the event of a grid outage, you want essential consumers to continue operating: cooling systems, pumps, IT, security, lighting, or medical equipment.
Depending on the selected configuration and the grid operator's capabilities, the Solis hybrid inverter can be configured with an emergency power output (EPS). This allows part of the system to continue operating autonomously in the event of a grid outage. We'll work with you to determine exactly which circuits will be powered during the design phase. This allows you to prioritize which appliances have priority in the event of a power outage.
Thanks to the large 40 kWh capacity, you can often bridge an outage for several hours or even days, especially when solar power is still available during the day. For businesses, this means that production losses, disposal of refrigerated inventory, or the shutdown of critical processes can be prevented or significantly reduced.
Space requirements and placement of battery and inverter
The Felicity 40 kWh battery tower is typically installed in a utility room, garage, utility room, or industrial building. Expect a width of approximately 60 cm, a depth of 50 cm, and a height of approximately 1.8 meters for the complete tower configuration. The Solis 3-phase hybrid inverter is wall-mounted and takes up relatively little space.
Important considerations during installation include ventilation, temperature, service accessibility, and the distance to the meter box. The shorter the cable runs, the more efficient and cost-effective the installation. During the inspection, we'll work with you to determine the most logical location for the battery, inverter, and any additional distribution boxes.
Frequently asked questions about this complete package
Is a 3-phase connection mandatory for this system?
Yes, a 3-phase grid connection is required for a 15 kW 3-phase inverter. If you don't have a 3-phase connection yet, you can often request one from your grid operator. We're happy to discuss the technical implications and your desired connection load with you.
How much can I save approximately with 40 kWh of storage?
For a high-volume consumer (large household or SME) with an annual consumption between approximately 15,000 and 25,000 kWh, a 40 kWh system can cover a significant portion of their daytime and evening consumption with their own solar power. Savings depend on the precise consumption profiles and your rate, but amounts of €2,000 to €3,000 per year are feasible in many scenarios. You'll also benefit from a higher degree of energy independence.
Can I expand the system later?
The Felicity battery tower is modular. Within the limits of the BMS and inverter, expansion is often possible by adding additional modules. Parallel systems are also an option for certain projects when even greater power or capacity is required. We consider your future expansion plans during the design phase.
How long does installation take?
The installation of a complete 3-phase system with a 40 kWh battery and a 15 kW hybrid inverter usually takes one working day, sometimes one and a half days depending on the complexity of the meter box, cable runs and any additional adjustments.
